WW2 POW identity tag

WW2 POW identity tag

Code: 10257

SOLD

Original wartime German issue, prisoner of war identity tag.

Made from zinc metal plate (do not rust) with a serrated centre line and indentical stampings either side of this line. The tag would be worn around the prisoners neck by a cord and if he died the tag would be snapped in half. The side with two holes to be kept with the POW and the single hole side to be kept with his records. The information given on the tag relates to the POW camp number, and the individual's POW identity number which would also coincide with the held record card. This tag gives the camp number Stalag II B, which is Hammerstein in Germany. The POW number 24650 will need researching to find the identity.
