1938 dated RAF ordinary airman's peaked cap with cover

Code: 10424

SOLD

A rare pre war dated RAF ordinary airman's peaked cap with cover and armband.

This pattern of airman's peaked cap was worn throughout the 1930's, but was discontinued during WW2, except for the RAF Police Service who still wore it, and they were issued with a white removable cotton top cover. The style of the cap can be identified as a pre war pattern by the small size black patent leather peak, the taller front piece, and the high cap badge mount. The ordinary airman's peaked cap was later re-issued but postwar, and this differed slightly in that the peak was broader, and the height of the front piece was lowered and the badge was fixed lower over the mohair band.

This cap is in an excellent issued condition. It shows slight signs of crazing on the leather peak, the brass RAF badge is worn, and the white cotton cover has age soiling, but no moth issues or other damage are visible. The leather sweatband is embossed with the maker Silberston & sons Ltd, London, and feintly stamped with the size 7 1/8 and a date of 1938.

Comes with a RAFP armband, which is in a good condition (see photos).
