A very pretty rich purple silk stole from the Spitalfields weavers of the early 19th century. It dates to about 1810.

It has floral ends of honeysuckle or roses, woven in fresh colours with a final border of smaller flowers. It has a narrow contrasting border down each side.

The Spitalfields weavers, who worked in London, made some of the most beautiful shawls and stoles, as well as silk dress fabric, in the 18th and early 19th century.

This stole is in very good antique condition, with one  small hole, which does not immediately notice, and a small nick to the edge. The silk drapes beautifully, and there is a short fringe from weave each end.
