A superb evening gown is presented and is in a lovely soft old rose pink silk brocade. It is French and dates to about 1825.
The gown is showing the progress towards the elaborate sleeves of the 1830s', but is still firmly in the middle of the 1820s'.
This gown has a full skirt, tightly gathered into a slightly elevated waistline. Particularly attractive, and typical of the 1820s' is the trio of padded piping decoration around the skirt, which is in a darker pink. The lower reverse edge of the skirt is lined in a pink cotton fabric.
It is gathered from the front waist up through the bodice.
There is side fastening to the neck and waist and the bodice is lined in cream cotton.
As described, the sleeves are long and with medium fullness down to the wrist.
The condition is excellent. The rose pink shade is delightful and changes according to the light.
Measurements: Length from shoulder to hem 48". Across shoulders 14". Across waist 11".
This is a beautiful and elegant item for the serious collector of early costume.
