A rare dress in fine cotton and beautiful hand embroidery. English ca. 1808
The dress is beautiful and adorned with generous embroidery to the front skirt, neckline, cuffs and the hem. The design of the embroidery is intricate and stylish. All hand worked of course and beautifully ececuted by a patient and dedicated needlewoman.
The dress is of an earlier style of the pre-Regency era and has a lower waist at the back with opening and dorset buttons to close. The front waist is higher and sits under the bust.
The sleeves are long and the skirt has a slight train indicating that this fashion was coming to an end, as it did in about 1810.
This dress is in very good condition, and we can only fine a slight fault to one cuff which hardly shows. Otherwise it is clean and without any holes etc.
Measurements: Length from shoulder to front hem 52". Across shoulders 11+. Across waist 12" and the bands of embroidery to skirt and hem are 3" wide.
