Marriage board

An interesting, Victorian  marriage board. This board is carved in oak which, in itself, is not common. The border design incorporates the words 'Long life and Happiness' along with wedding bells, horseshoes, leaves and berries. This design was carved to be given as a wedding gift and this board dates from c.1860. Originally the carving would have been quite deep and well detailed. It is now slightly worn with use. The wood has a dark patina. There is a burn mark to the reverse of the board and this has also taken a small area of the rim, which is more noticeable on the underside.There is further chipping to the rim of the board.
