French copper daubiere

Code: F19040

SOLD

A 19th century, French copper daubiere or brasing pan. These pans were placed on the heat and hot coals were put into the raised lid so that the contents would cook slowly from both above and below. This one is well made, from quite a heavy gauge of copper. It has neatly castellated seams around the base and up the side. It has a flat strap handle to the lid and square section handles to the ends of the pan. It is in very good condition. It has not been re-tinned, and the tinning is not good enough for it to be used for cooking. However, it is an ideal size to be used as a bread bin. Internally it measures 34cm. long by 19cm. wide by 17cm. high. Overall, including the handles, it is 43cm. long by 22.5 wide and 22cm. high.
