A tall, elegant, reclaimed Art Nouveau cast iron fire surround with an oak mantel. The surround has a very pretty design with roses and leaves in the Art Nouveau style, along the crossbar. There is a simple raised border around the fire opening. The original mantel was damaged and it has been replaced with a good quality oak mantel that has been sprayed black. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixing the surround to the wall. The back of the fire surround has a registered design number, RD493291, dating the surround to 1906. The surround is very tall and the legs have a simple design and therefore it is possible to cut the legs down in size, included in the price, should it be too tall for your requirements. The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of use and age. The top of the manel has had some wood filler applied to cover the fixing screw holes. The iron has some casting marks and small knocks. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a lovely example of Art Nouveau design and it would make a nice period feature for a home.
