A very elegant and fine quality, large, reclaimed cast iron fire surround with wooden mantel. The surround, dating to C.1890-1900, has a very elegant design in the Adam style, popular during the late Victorian era, with a large urn, swags and bows on the crossbar and medallions at each end. The legs have pretty bows and decorative detailing and there is an ornate acanthus leaf border around the fire opening. There are repeated rosettes under the mantel. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The original mantel was damaged and has been replaced with a wooden mantel that has been painted black. The fire surround has four fixing lugs, one on each side under the mantel and one on each side at the base of the legs, for fixing the surround to the wall.

The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The wooden mantel has some small marks, scratches and knocks and the mantel paint has some slight blistering. The iron has some pitting and casting marks. The back of the surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a good size, perfect for a living or dining room and is a lovely example of Adam style design. The surround would make a fantastic period feature in a home.
