An elegant and large, reclaimed, cast iron fire surround dating to C.1900. The fire surround has a very pretty design, typical of the era, with swags, bows and a flower medallion in the centre of the crossbar. There is repeating decorative detail under the mantel and mouldings that run along the crossbar and down the legs. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. There is a fixing lug on either side, under the mantel and on the outside of each foot, for attaching the surround to the wall.
The surround is in good antique condition with some small signs of use and wear. The iron has some casting marks, indentations and pitting. There are some small knocks. The mantel screws do not sit totally flush with the mantel. The back of the surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace and its elegant design makes it very desirable.
