A very large and heavy, reclaimed, cast iron fire surround, dating to the early to mid Victorian era. The fire surround has an ornate design, typical of the era, with circular medallions, swags and rope edging along the crossbar. There is fluting and pretty flower detailing at the top of the legs and the bottom of the legs each have a panel with an urn holding flowers. There is a fixing lug on either side, under the mantel, but one lug is a replacement metal tab as the original was broken. The back of the fire surround has a design name and a kite dating mark. Both are now not readable but we can date the fire surround to pre 1884 when the dating system changed.

The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some slight repaired damage. The left hand fixing lug, when looking at the surround, was broken and has been replaced with a metal fixing tab. The area with the break has been fixed with a metal plate that can be seen on the back of the fire and some putty was used on the side of the fire. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The mantel edges have some roughness and some slight white residue. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an imposing size and could be paired with a wood burner or a large fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace and its size and handsome design makes it very desirable.
