A handsome, reclaimed, Arts & Crafts solid oak door dating to C.1890. The door is ideal for internal use or could perhaps be used externally if some work is carried out to make it suitable for taking weather. The door has a fantastic Arts & Crafts design with twelve recessed panels. The door has had one top corner cut at an angle to fit its original space. The internal face of the door was designed to blend in with the panelling in its original room and one edge has missing mouldings to one panel and different mouldings on another panel, probably where it fitted with the wall panels. We have a section of the original panelling with the same mouldings, which will be included in the price, so you could try to replace the missing and different mouldings if you wish (the panel can be seen in the last 2 photographs). The door has a varnished finish to one face and a faded varnish or stain on the other face.
The door is in good condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The door has some small knocks, chips, scratches and marks. There is a split in the top corner. The oak has some fading to the finish and some staining. The door has some small holes and marks from hardware removal. The door width may need slight levelling. Please see pictures for condition details. The door has great character and is a nice example of Arts and Crafts design and it would make an interesting door or cupboard door.
