An elegant, large, reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period, C.1900. The fire surround has a lovely design with ornate decoration in the centre featuring leaves and scrolls and there are single leaves on each end. There is moulded detail that runs under the crossbar, under the mantel and down the legs. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The back edge of the mantel has fixing tabs for sinking into the wall and there is a fixing lug on the right hand side, under the mantel, for fixings to attach the surround to the wall. The left hand fixing lug was broken and has been replaced with a metal fixing tab.

The surround is in solid condition with some signs of age and some damage, as expected of antique items. The base of the left hand leg (when looking at the surround) has some damage. There are several cracks and some light can be seen through one of the cracks but the leg is stable. The iron has some casting marks, pitting and small knocks. The back of the surround has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an impressive size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace.
