A delightful vintage 1950's Volupte, USA Swinglok gold tone musical compact carryall (vanity case). This pretty carryall is decorated with a diamante treble clef sitting on an etched musical stave giving a hint to it's musical movement. It has a fully working musical movement which plays 'Califonia Here I Come'. The innovate swinglok design opens the carryall to reveal a powder well with the original sifter and original puff with the Volupte logo on ribbon across the front. There has been some powder in the well although the puff and sifter look unused. There is an integral lipstick which sits snuggly behind the powder well. Next is a larger compartment which houses the musical movement, it lifts to reveal the workings and the original sticker which gives the title of the song. There is a full length mirror which can be pulled forwards to reveal a compartment behind for dance cards or handkerchief. The carryall sits snuggly in a black fabric carry pouch with fabric handle and a poppered pocket on the back so it can be carried like a small purse.
The carryalll is in great condition with the gold tone body showing a few spots of tarnish and minimal light surface scratches. The diamantes in the treble clef are all present. Inside there is a scratch on the mirror where the musical movement catch is. There are a few tiny spots of tarnish. The inside is in excellent condition. The lipstick holds the original lipstick but it seems stuck and I haven't forced it. The Swinglok movement closes with a good click. The fabric case is in excellent condition with some surface marks. The handle will move so it can be folded down. The popper pocket closes smoothly and the pocket appears unused. Th musical movement works very well. I have only lightly wound it and it plays as it should.
