A rare Salvador Dali for Schiaparelli Telephone Dial Powder Compact.  This wonderful powder compact dates to 1935 and is unsigned.  It is marked 'Made in France' to the interior.  It has a cream/off white enamelled lid and replicates a telephone dial with red letters and black numbers.  In the centre of the dial is a brass nameplate which is blank but would have been used for a name or initials. Inside has a bevelled mirror and it comes with its original powder sifter.  The base has a circular engine turned design.

This is an opportunity to own an extremely rare powder compact which was the first collaboration between Salvador Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli. Examples can be seen on the Schiaparelli website.

The condition is original as after much consideration I decided not to undertake any cleaning or restoration but preferred to leave it in its original condition.  There is a small area of enamel missing just to the bottom right hand side of the central brass nameplate - other than that the enamel is in excellent condition.  Inside the bevelled mirror has fogging/silvering and a small missing area to the top of the mirror.  The mirror is still useable.  The original sifter is in good condition with some powder residue and powder smell.  There are some light surface scratches to the body of the compact and to the powder well.  The catch must be pushed in, in order for the compact to close.  It will not close just by pushing shut but when closed it is firmly shut.
