Fabulous French Art Deco circa 1920's retractable powder puff. The Houpette retractable powder puff has a retractable swansdown powder puff and the handle holds the powder. The powder puff is made of black celluloid and accented with an elegant design of stylised foliage in a glorious contrasting gold. To expose the swansdown puff you unscrew the cap and push the handle up - a bit like opening an umbrella.  To fill with powder you unscrew the bottom cap and tip loose powder into the handle.  The design is ingenious! Made in France - Houpette means puff in French.  

This unusual and rare retractable is in fantastic condition.  There is wear to the gilding on the top and cap where it has been unscrewed and to the gilding to near the base again due to the unscrewing of the cap. The gilding is in otherwise great condition.  There are some tiny nicks - one on the cap at the base where you load the powder and the others are on the cap that reveals the puff.  The swans down puff is in excellent condition and retracts beautifully.  The swans down is shedding slightly.
