Original WW2 RN Chief Petty Officers Single Breasted Serge Jacket

Original WW2 RN Chief Petty Officers Single Breasted Serge Jacket

Code: 52116

SOLD

An original Royal Navy Chief Petty Officers Single Breasted Serge Jacket dating from the Second World War.

This pattern of jacket was introduced in May 1943 replacing the earlier four button example. It was worn by Chief Petty Officers and confirmed Petty Officers as a daily working dress. The Buttons on the cuff of this example denote that the original wearer was the latter.

The jacket is made from the standard black dyed wool serge used during this period. The jacket features flapped pockets to each hip and no rear vent. It is cut short in the body in a 'bum freezer' style as was popular during the 1930s and 1940s. It is fully lined and features an interior pocket.

The original label is still present inside the jacket and is the paper type usually found on earlier manufactured clothing. It bears the title of 'Jackets Serge S.B' and the size of 9A which is designed to fit a 36" chest. The mankers name of 'A. Fleming & Co (outfitters) Ltd' of Portsmouth is also present.

As stated on the label the jacket is designed to fit a 36" chest and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 18 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 3/4"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"
Length - 30"

The jacket is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It only shows limited signs of wear and use and displays extremely well. It is a vintage item however so may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice example of this rare pattern of jacket, complete with its original label. A must have for the serious collector!
