Original WW2 Royal Army Pay Corps Officers Peaked Cap by 'Gieves'

Code: 52034

SOLD

An original British Army Officer peaked cap to the Royal Army Pay Corps.

This original cap is an earlier shape with high sides and a stiff crown. It is made from a nice khaki fur felt and features a Bronze OSD Royal Army Pay Corps cap badge to the front and match buttons to each side. These buttons hold a brown leather chin strap to the front of the cap. The matching buttons are a nice feature and mean that the cap is an original example rather than a later ‘put together’ piece.

The hat retains its original maker's label to the interior which reads ‘Gieves LTD’. It features the Royal coat of arms and the words 'By appointment to his Majesty the King' which dates the cap to pre 1953. The leather sweatband is deep which is another typical feature of early hats. There are two small holes where it appears the blades of the cap badge were fitted through it at some stage, most likely in error.

The hat measures at 21". It fits a display head and presents well as the exterior condition is very good. Please study the pictures as they form part of the description.

Overall a very nice original hat which would make a great addition to any collection.
