Original 1945 Dated RAF Ordinary Airman's Tunic - Size 8

SOLD

An original 1945 dated RAF Ordinary Airman’s four pocket tunic complete with its original insignia and waist belt.

This original tunic was the standard pattern worn by all men in the RAF under the rank of sergeant throughout the Second World War. It features a complete set of original brass Kings crown buttons, wartime semi-embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve, printed wartime Leading Aircraftsman badges below this and a single good conduct stripe to the bottom of the left sleeve.

Inside the tunic the original label is still present. It states the size as No. 8 and the maker as 'J. Compton, Sons & Webb Ltd' who are an often see manufacture of wartime items. The jacket will fit someone of around 5' 8" tall, 37-38" chest and a 34" waist. The War Department broad arrow stamp and 1945 date are also both present on the label.

The condition of the tunic is very good and it displays nicely as can be seen in the photographs. All the buttons and insignia are present and it is clean overall. The only flaw I can find is one small hole to the right sleeve as shown in the pictures. It would not be difficult to repair this if you so wished.

Altogether a nice original wartime RAF tunic with all of its original badges. This is an authentic unmolested example which would make a fine addition to any collection.
