Original Early 1950s RAF Officers Khaki Drill Tunic by 'Gieves'

Code: 52203

SOLD

An original RAF Officer's Khaki Drill Tunic which most likely dates from the early 1950s.

This pattern of Khaki Drill Tunic was worn by officers serving in the RAF during the inter-war period, WW2 and the post-war period. There is no clear date on this example although it most likely dates from the early 1950s. None-the-less it could date from earlier and will easily pass as an earlier example.

The tunic is made from a tan coloured cotton drill and features pleated pockets with scalloped flaps to the chest, lower bellows pockets to the skirt and a pointed cuff to each sleeve. The tunic retains its original matching waist belt and brass buckle. The tunic is fitted with brass Kings crown RAF buttons throughout. Straps are located to each shoulder to which Officers rank boards can be fitted.

Inside the tunic the original tailors label is still present. It bears the maker's name of 'Gieves Ltd' who were a prestigious West End tailor. Details pertaining to the original owner and date although they are hard to read.

The tunic will suit someone of around a 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 32 1/2"

The tunic is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows some sign of wear and age but overall displays well. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all a nice RAF KD tunic which would be suitable for a Second World War officer impression or mannequin.
