Decanting machines have become quite scarce - but this is a pleasant one, if a little late in date by our standards.
The base board is walnut, while the cradle and worm are steel, stained black, and the vertical members are turned brass,
The machine works by turning the cranked handle, thus causing the square block to traverse the worm and that in turn increases or decreases the angle of the cradle.
Most antique decanting cradles have worn elements of the mechanism which makes for jerky action, thus ruining the whole point of using a mechanical cradle. This example is 'tight' with very little 'play', and so it works well.
