This is a typical wine taster or tastevin from Bordeaux and is quite a different shape from tastevins from other areas of France and was the general shape used by British silversmiths in previouss centuries. It dates from the middle of the 19th century and is a very flat conical shape with a central hemispherical up-lift and is raised on a low collet foot. The are acouple of very small assay marks which we have been unable to decipher.
The underside is engraved in a fine flowing script "B Lavale" (see last Image)
