A boldly patterned, late 19th century, Meiji period Arita Imari jar and cover.  The body of the jar and lid is of fluted form and features panels decorated with floral and bird motifs in all-over rich tones of iron red and cobalt blue with gilded highlights.  The cover, which rather looks like a bobble hat, retains its original bold knop finial.  A wonderful piece remaining in excellent original condition.  Origin: Japan.  Circa 1880.
