Late C19th rare Howard and Sons pair of upholstered library chairs / armchairs; of unusual restrained form and neat proportions; the padded back with a slight rollover top with a good head height leading to the padded, straight arms with gently curved sides on the sprung seat having a straight front; raised on mahogany square tapering legs, back legs stamped "Howard & Sons Ltd, Berners St" and serial numbers. Retaining all of their original brass castors stamped "Howard & Sons London". The upholstery showing parts of the original monogrammed Howard ticking. This pair of Howard chairs are slightly more structured than the norm, so would work very well in a formal setting as well as a country house.
