Midcentury East, Haggerston School, October 2019

We had a good-sized stand at one of the UK’s premier midcentury fairs on Sunday 13th October 2019. The fair was in Haggerston School in Hackney, a notable location for such a fair. The school was designed in 1962 by leading modernist architect Erno Goldfinger (1902-87). Comprising three connected blocks the school had a light airy feel and was finished with fine details in tile, wood, brick and concrete. Now grade II listed it was a fine setting for such a fair with about 55 dealers showing great furniture, paintings and posters, glass, ceramics, tablewares and jewellery. If you like modern design this is a fair that is well worth visiting.

We took along a good selection across our range of stock including paintings, ceramics, glass and jewellery. One of the paintings sold as did several ceramics, ever popular glass miniatures and some stylish tablewares. An interesting sight now often seen at such fairs was people taking lots of pictures of items on display. I imagine many of these end up on Instagram as people seek to use their page to curate their personal style with things they have discovered.

The next one of these fairs is at Dulwich College in south London on Sunday 17th November 2019, 10-4pm. It promises to be one of our biggest fairs of the year. Hope to see you there.
