RAF Irvin flying jacket - large

RAF Irvin flying jacket - large

Code: J27197

RESERVED

'Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket'.  Unknown size but physically measures approximately 50” (maximum) so should be OK for around a 44/45” chest.  This example is of typical 1941/mid-war construction with four main panels and two smaller panels on both the front and rear.  The leather is in very good overall condition and has much of the original chromed finish with excellent flexibility.  There is light general wear, abrasion, creasing and a few very small surface nicks but no tears or serious issues and all seams appear to be good and tight.  The overall finish is a relatively dark brown with a good even sheen.  Good working original Air Ministry marked 'D-o-T' zips throughout.  The belt is very good and the collar is complete with strap/rings and eyelets for a strap at the back (not fitted but we have some available at the moment).  There is very light moulting at the collar edge but the lining is otherwise excellent and remains remarkably good at the waist and cuffs.  This is a large jacket and all Irvins have very long sleeves.  Because of this a previous owner has had them reduced with the zips also being carefully shortened.  Have a look at the measurements noted below but if you have 'normal' length arms, this jacket will probably be a much better fit now they have been shortened!  A very good '+' example.  Stock code J27917.

Approximate size, jacket zipped and laid flat: pit to pit 25", centre pit seam to cuff 19.5", shoulder seam to cuff 23", lower pit seam to waist 14.5", mid pit seam to waist 16", collar seam to waist 26.5".
