Jacket, Field, Olive Drab. Approximate size 43/44" (see below). Universally known as the M-1941 or M-41, the jacket was developed from the designs of civilian windcheaters, entered service in 1941 and became standard issue for many American forces during WW2. Manufactured with a tightly woven, wind-resistant, lightweight light olive drab No.2 cotton poplin with a wool flannel lining. It features a front zip behind a buttoned storm flap, two front slash pockets and a notched lapel collar. Although lightweight and comfortable, the M-41 wasn't particularly warm or waterproof and was intended to be replaced by the M-43. In practice, production delays meant that the M-41 saw service until the end of the war. This example has light marking but aside from minor wear, most notable on the collar fold and edge, it is free of damage or repairs. The Talon zip functions correctly and all buttons/straps remain in place (one of the buttons under the collar is broken). The lining is generally very good but does have a small area of loss/repair and 2 little moth holes as shown. Label absent and evidence of unit patch removal at the left shoulder. Fitted with Sergeant stripes and has been neatly personalised by the owner having 'Pete' marked in ink on the left breast and rear. Now much reproduced this original is in very good '+' condition.
