RAF type-G oxygen mask - history

RAF type-G oxygen mask - history

Code: O20531

SOLD

Stores reference 6D/645.  Size small.  The facepiece is a bit grubby but retains very good overall shape other than inward curling of the lower/side edge.  The rubber is generally excellent and flexible without any notable issues.  There is no cracking on the main facepiece, even when flexed.  Minor cracks can be seen on/adjacent to the nosewire/harness retaining lugs, but nowhere else.  Please note that close up photography makes these seem worse than they really are!  The harness webbing retains good strong colour, elasticity and all three original rubber bands.  Lined in very clean light tan suede.  The mask appears to have never been fitted with a microphone and still has a bakelite blanking cap in place (stores reference 6D/775).  It would a simple task to add a microphone/loom.  We can supply and fit an unissued type 48 microphone assembly at extra cost if required.  An excellent mask that displays very well.  Whilst this came from the estate (via his son) of a navigator who flew on Lancasters with 207 Squadron between 1944 and 1947, it would appear to be unused.  The mask will be supplied with a few basic service details and 2 photocopied photos.  Stock code H20531.
