Beautifully modelled, mid 19th century, decorative French mirror in portrait form with stepped, curved top and base decorated with high acanthus leaf upper cartouche and shell lower cartouche, linked to the sides of the mirror with pierced, scrolling, acanthus leaves. Each upper side is topped with an urn of flowers and both sides of the mirror have a double frame with central rosette. All the glass is mercury glass in superb, original condition and the central mirror plate is bevelled, following the stepped shape of the frame. Through more than 170 years of cleaning, the gilding has thinned on the side sections of frame revealing the burnished terracotta bole beneath.
