Antique French panel mirror, circa 1840, with a deep gilt frame decorated with a raised rippled design and inner basket weave pattern. Where this mirror has been dusted for almost 200 years, the gilding is thinning slightly revealing the warm, terracotta coloured bole beneath. The original mercury glass is in good condition with just a little wispy, light age and gives a good reflection. This mirror would have been part of the decorative panelling in an important French house and can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
