Antique French gilt mirror, circa 1880, with unusual incurving top between an angled step and curved upper corners. The narrow, outcurving frame is watergilded and, where the mirror has been dusted for more than 140 years, the gold leaf has thinned a little, revealing the terracotta bole beneath as well as the brighter lines of gold where each sheet overlapped when applied to the frame. The original glass is in very good condition with just a very little, light age and gives an excellent reflection.
