18th Century Caughley Porcelain Broseley Fluted Coffee Cup c.1795

Code: FA0877

SOLD

Sweet Caughley fluted coffee cup in the "Broseley" shape with distinctive ear shaped handle. The outside is decorated with a barbeaux sprigs pattern, hand painted flowers in blue, red, green and yelloe. The inside has a running border of green leaves and blue and red cornflowers, framed with a gilded band and gilded scalloped rim. Further gilt band around the foot and some detailing to the handle. Unmarked, c.1795, for a similar example, see A Compendium Of British Cups, Berthoud, plate 84 or Caughley & Worcester Porcelains, Godden, plates 75 and 82.

It measures 6.7cm (2 5/8") high, 7cm (2 3/4") rim to rim and 9.2cm (2 5/8") rim to handle.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. Surface wear is light: there is a small loss to the gilding on the foot band, another to the band inside the rim and a little to the handle. Otherwise just a little usual wear to the rim in a few places, and minimal wear to the enamels.
