Charles II Gold Five Guineas, 1668 (Fist year of the five guineas issue)
Obverse: First laureate head facing right, pointed truncation, lovelock on shoulder, longer ties, with elephant below, with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding: CAROLVS. II. DEI. GRATIA
Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields, emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, four interlinked C’s at the centre, date (1668) either side of the top English crown. With Latin legend and toothed border surrounding: MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB. REX.
Edge inscribed in Latin with raised letters: +.DECVS. ET. TVTAMEN. ANNO./ REGNI. VICESIMO.

37 mm in diameter, 41.7 grams.
A gentle rim bruise at 6 o’ clock, a few scattered marks in fields, otherwise very fine with lustre in recesses, a scarce first year and type of the issue.
