Victoria, 1887 Silver Proof Set, Struck for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
Comprising of: Silver Crown, Double-Florin, Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Threepence. (7)
All the obverses with the Jubilee crowned and veiled bust facing left, J.E.B. initials on truncation for the designer Joseph Edgar Boehm, J.E.B. below truncation on Sixpence, blank truncation on Threepence, with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding.
Reverse of the silver crown with St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right, for Benedetto Pistrucci, Double-Florin and Florin with crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, Arabic 1 in date of the Double-Florin, Halfcrown with crowned quartered shield of arms, within Order of the Garter, date 1887 at bottom, with Latin legend surrounding. Shilling and Sixpence with crowned quartered shield of arms, within Garter motto, date 1887 below, Threepence with crowned mark of value within wreath, date either side of the denomination 3.

A rare matching early Victorian Proof set, all with an attractive blue/purple dark tone. Practically as struck, housed in a fitted contemporary black leatherette case with gold block lettering and crest on the exterior.

*The 1887 Silver Proof sets of the Golden Jubilee sold in much smaller quantities than the “long sets” with the gold five pounds - sovereign proof coins. The actual number sold was only 287 sets.
